"At one time, I thought only writing could stir my creative juices. I had wanted to be a journalist from the time I was a child. In school, I could twist and turn any assigned topic into a story that would nearly always rate me an A. At the same time, in class I would always be doodling, sketching and drawing to take up any extra creativity in my brain. Then, retiring after more than 40 satisfying years as a reporter, I turned to art--something I had always enjoyed by largely from a spectator's point of view. About 10 years ago, I began watercolor painting. Then I discovered the joy and freedom of oils: I could produce an image rich in color and depth that I could never find in watercolors. At time the paint flies with such excitement that I've found that it's safest to paint in my underwear! I quickly understood that I was using the same creative energy that I had called upon in writing. So now I do both--writing and art--with equal satisfaction."
